Sydney NYE fireworks cruises 2026

9pm family sailings, midnight catamarans, exclusion-zone dinner ships and the James Craig — where to board and what it cost as of 6 September 2026.

Sydney NYE fireworks cruises 2026

A Sydney New Year’s Eve cruise is the other way to skip a dawn lawn. You spend 31 December in the city, board in the evening, and watch the 9pm Calling Country fireworks, the midnight show, or both from the water. This page is the 2026 cruise picture: which sailing to book, where boats leave from, what “exclusion zone” actually buys you, and what the official events list was charging as of 6 September 2026. Shore parks stay in free NYE viewing spots and paid NYE viewing spots. The night itself is in the Sydney NYE fireworks guide.

Sydney NYE cruise boarding points

Interactive map available in the live article. Viewing spots:

City wharves

  • Darling Harbour Pier 26
  • King Street Wharf 1
  • Maritime Museum, Pyrmont

East and north

  • Double Bay Wharf
  • Manly Wharf 2

Prices below are a snapshot. The official NYE events list and the operator ticket page can disagree by a hundred dollars in the same week. Book on the operator site or the official listing — not a screenshot in a Facebook group. Midnight sailings are already selling out.

9pm, midnight, or both

The harbour show has two fireworks: Calling Country at 9pm (the family-friendly display) and the main midnight fireworks. Harbour Lights — illuminated vessels — is listed at 9:15pm. Short cruises pick one show and get you home before the worst of the station crush. Dinner and tall-ship sailings stay out for both, usually boarding around 6:30–7:30pm and returning after 1am.

  • 9pm-only — typically about 2–2.5 hours. Best with children, or if you want a restaurant after the family show
  • Midnight-only — board late (around 10:15–10:30pm), watch the main display, disembark after 12:30am. Adults and older kids; infants are often charged the adult fare
  • Both shows — five to seven hours on board, dinner or all-inclusive drinks, and a reserved seat. This is the $1,000–$2,500 band

What “exclusion zone” means

On the night, large stretches of the harbour around the Bridge and Opera House are closed to private boats. Licensed NYE cruise operators can sit inside that zone; a random charter that is not on the official list may be held outside it. Captain Cook, SEADECK and several all-inclusive party boats advertise exclusion-zone access as the point of the ticket. A cheaper 9pm catamaran still gets you on the water with a harbour view — it is not automatically the same patch of water as a $2,000 dinner ship. Ask the operator, in writing, whether the sailing is inside the exclusion zone before you pay for “front row”.

Family 9pm fireworks cruises

9pm fireworks cruise — Darling Harbour (Ocean Tracker)

How to get there: Town Hall, light rail to Convention / Paddy’s Markets, or a walk from Barangaroo. Darling Harbour is the practical board if Circular Quay Station closes 3pm–midnight. Do not drive.

Sydney Opera House from the harbour on a bright day
Harbour-level Opera House view — the 9pm family cruises are on the water for this composition, not a Bridge-arch dinner.
  • Boarding / cruise window: Fantasea currently lists Darling Harbour Pier 26, Berth 6, departing 7:30pm, about 2.5 hours, for the 9pm show. The official events list shows the same product as 7:15pm–9:45pm. Use the time printed on your ticket.
  • Arrive by: At least 45 minutes before departure. Pier 26 queues. There is no “just miss it and catch the next one”.

Adult $425, child 4–15 $265, infant 0–3 $160, family (2 adults + 2 children) $1,250 as of 6 September 2026 on Fantasea’s 9pm Ocean Tracker page. BYO food, licensed cashless bar. Climate-controlled cabin, outside decks, wheelchair accessible. This is the official events list’s “from about $425” family sailing.

Fantasea also runs 9pm sailings from Manly (Ocean Flyer) if you are staying on the northern beaches and want to skip the CBD. Confirm the 2026 Manly 9pm fare on the operator site — it is not always the Darling Harbour $425 ticket.

Midnight-only cruises

Midnight fireworks cruise — Darling Harbour

How to get there: Same Darling Harbour approach as the 9pm sailing. You will share midnight platforms with Lower Bradfield and Luna Park when you get back — budget a slow walk to Town Hall or Wynyard, not a taxi at the wharf.

Sydney Harbour Bridge steel arch over the water
Bridge at water level — midnight sailings exist to put you here for the main show, then get you off the harbour.
  • Boarding / cruise window: Ocean Tracker midnight: departs Darling Harbour 10:15pm, about 2.5 hours. Exact berth to be confirmed on the ticket. Currently listed as sold out on Fantasea at $750 for adult, child and infant.
  • Arrive by: By 9:30pm at the named pier. Priority boarding is sold as an extra (currently +$125pp on Fantasea). The official events list still showed a midnight cruise from about $695 — operator pages are the live price.

BYO food, licensed bar. Same vessel style as the 9pm cruise: decks, cabin, toilets, wheelchair access. Infants are not a cheap add-on on midnight — they are charged the adult fare on this product.

Midnight fireworks cruise — Double Bay (Escapade)

How to get there: F7 ferry to Double Bay earlier in the day if it is still running, or bus 323/324/325. This sailing exists so you never enter Circular Quay. Fantasea Escapade midnight.

Eastern-harbour departure — Double Bay is the boarding story, not a CBD lawn.
  • Boarding / cruise window: Departs Double Bay Wharf 10:30pm. About two hours. Adult / child / infant $695. Priority boarding +$125pp.
  • Arrive by: 10pm at Double Bay Wharf. Eastern suburbs traffic and extra NYE passengers on New South Head Road — do not cut it fine.

BYO food, licensed bar, two outside decks, wheelchair accessible. The official events list also shows a Double Bay 9pm-and-midnight product with a 7:15pm–9:15pm window — that listing looks like a 9pm-only sailing despite the title. Read the hours, not the headline.

Manly midnight: Ocean Flyer from Manly Wharf 2 at 10:15pm, about 2.25 hours, BYO food and bar. Check the live fare on Fantasea’s Ocean Flyer midnight page. Useful if you are staying in Manly and refuse a city station at 1am.

Dinner, party boats and exclusion-zone seats

All-inclusive dinner cruise — Sydney 2000 (Captain Cook)

How to get there: Walk from Town Hall or Wynyard into Darling Harbour / King Street Wharf. Light rail to Convention. Circular Quay Station is the wrong plan after 3pm.

Darling Harbour waterfront with boats and the W Sydney hotel
Darling Harbour — King Street Wharf is where Sydney 2000 boards, not Circular Quay.
  • Boarding / cruise window: Board 6:30pm, depart 7pm, disembark about 1am from Darling Harbour King Street Wharf 1. Sky Deck $2,350, Club Deck $2,150, Ocean Deck $2,050 per person (window surcharge extra; minimum two people per booking). Snapshot from Captain Cook’s 2026 NYE page.
  • Arrive by: 6:00–6:15pm at King Street Wharf 1. Singles pay for a table of two unless the operator adds you to an existing booking.

Exclusion-zone access, reserved seating, premium beverages, three deck/menu tiers. Five hours. This is the official events list’s “Sydney 2000” dinner cruise (listed from $2,050). Confirm inclusions on Captain Cook NYE.

The same official list currently has other all-inclusive or party sailings in a wide band: a three-level party boat from about $750, an open-air Pyrmont deck from $999, the Eclipse catamaran from $999 (boarding from midday), SEADECK at $1,200 with exclusion-zone access, Coast at $1,450, Karisma 2 at $1,449, Aussie Magic at $1,350. All of those run roughly 7pm–1am unless the listing says otherwise. Compare food, drinks, DJ vs dinner, and whether the vessel is inside the exclusion zone — the price gap is not just nicer canapés.

Small luxury yachts and the tall ship

Tall ship James Craig, 1874

How to get there: Light rail to The Star or Pyrmont Bay, then walk to the Maritime Museum wharves. You are on the Pyrmont side, not Circular Quay.

Boats moored along a Sydney harbour pier
Pyrmont / Darling Harbour working water — James Craig boards at the Maritime Museum wharves, not a catamaran pontoon.
  • Boarding / cruise window: Board 6pm, depart 7pm, finish about 1am. Official events list: adult $2,000. North Wharf, Australian National Maritime Museum, Pyrmont (Wharf 7, 58 Pirrama Road).
  • Arrive by: 5:30–5:45pm. The ship will not wait. Sensible shoes — no stilettos.

Both fireworks plus the Parade of Lights. Canapés, food stations, desserts, premium beverages, live entertainment. Windproof jacket; it is a sailing ship on an open harbour. Official listing: NYE events.

If the brief is a small boat, not a 400-person catamaran, the official list currently includes The Jackson luxury cocktail cruise at $2,450 (7:30pm–1am) and a small-group motor yacht, Silver Spirit, from Darling Harbour at $2,495. Those are charter-scale prices for fewer people and a chef. Read the passenger cap before you assume “yacht” means private.

Where to board

  • Darling Harbour / King Street Wharf / Pier 26 — most family 9pm and midnight catamarans, Captain Cook, several party boats. Easiest if Circular Quay Station is closed
  • Pyrmont / Australian National Maritime Museum — James Craig and some open-deck products
  • Double Bay Wharf — eastern-suburbs midnight (Escapade) and the official Double Bay listing
  • Manly Wharf 2 — Ocean Flyer if you are staying north of the Bridge

Whichever pier is on the ticket, be there early with photo ID if the operator asked for it. NYE bag checks apply on many vessels. Glass, drones and large eskies are commonly banned even on BYO-food sailings. The harbour is windy after 9pm in a T-shirt — pack a layer.

What to check before you pay

  • Which fireworks — 9pm, midnight, or both
  • Whether the vessel sits inside the exclusion zone
  • Food: BYO, snacks for sale, or a full dinner (and dietary cut-off)
  • Drinks: licensed bar, all-inclusive, or dry
  • Return time and which station you can actually reach at 1am
  • Cancellation and weather — these are usually all-weather sailings, not “if it rains we refund”
  • Infant and child fares — midnight products often charge everyone the adult rate

Live NYE and fireworks cruises

Live experience cards load in the article for: new year, nye, fireworks.

Browse Sydney experiences

If those cards are thin, NYE inventory on live tour networks sells in spring. Browse the official events list first, then a generic harbour dinner cruise only if you are happy watching from outside the exclusion zone on a different night.

Cruise vs a ticketed lawn

A $425 9pm cruise is in the same neighbourhood as Taronga’s cheaper packages and well above North Sydney’s $65 lawns. You are paying to not sit on grass from 2pm, and to leave after one show. A $2,000 dinner ship is a different night: reserved seat, both fireworks, no picnic. If you want the Bridge in your lap and do not want to boat, Lower Bradfield and Luna Park are the paid shore version — see paid NYE viewing spots. If you want the postcard for free, that is still Mrs Macquaries Point, with a 10am start.

Confirm the operator page the week you book. For the rest of the trip, the Sydney destination guide and harbour walks and ferries cover the days that are not 31 December, or search for live experiences.
